There was a confrontation near the trade union office, where miners were holding a protest, between representatives of the "Georgian Trade Unions Confederation" and the miners.
The miners became agitated following a statement from a representative of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, who claimed that a "provocation" had taken place.
"For 27 days, they have been indifferent to us. We know the crimes committed by the representatives of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation. What is happening in Chiatura is the result of their indifference. All they do is accuse us of staging provocative protests," said one of the miners.
The miners also protested against a statement from the trade union, in which they were allegedly called "illegally striking workers."
"Do you want to talk? Do you want to do it in the street? Or elsewhere? We came to talk…," said Irakli Petriashvili, the head of the Georgian Trade Unions Confederation, and urged the confederation's representatives to leave the area.
The miners are demanding that the government take responsibility and that "Georgian Manganese" leave Chiatura. They also call for the creation of a workers' representative body that would be involved in planning and managing the mines.
Police are mobilized at the scene.
