Tina Khidasheli: The leaders of opposition parties and active members of the civil sector may end up in prison – dictatorship doesn't need a foundation, in a dictatorship they simply arrest you and send you to prison

I do not rule out the possibility of the arrest of any leader of an opposition or civil society organization, – said Tina Khidasheli, the founder of "Civil Idea," during an interview on PalitraNews' program "360 Degrees."

According to Khidasheli, the government is demonstrating a monopoly on constant and unchecked violence.

"Opposition party leaders and active members of the civil sector may end up in prison. This is not an insignificant matter. On what basis? Dictatorship does not need a foundation, in a dictatorship, they simply arrest you and send you to prison.

In the Administrative Offenses Code, we have an article about fines for not appearing before an investigative commission. Have you ever heard from the government or the so-called commission chairperson that if someone does not appear, they will impose a fine? They are directly talking about criminal law.

I do not only rule out the arrest of Khazaradze and Japaridze, but I also do not rule out the arrest of any leader of opposition or civil society organizations because the only tool left for the government is the demonstration of a monopoly on constant and unchecked violence. For this, sometimes they need to beat protesters, sometimes they need mass raids, and sometimes they will need to imprison public figures," Khidasheli said.

Khidasheli also stated that the discussion about the unconstitutional declaration of "National Movement" and other opposition parties by Georgian Dream is an announcement of dictatorship.

She added that the only partner that "Georgian Dream" has is intimidation.

"Georgian Dream has problems with its intentions and is changing its plans and tasks in the process. I don't think when Kobakhidze made the famous statement on November 28, he was planning to establish a dictatorship. But yesterday, with the statement made by Mdinaradze, they announced a dictatorship. Every step that Georgian Dream takes confirms that they are in panic, and now the system is trying to tighten as much as possible to stop society with fear. To fight against your own population like this, in this form, so actively, passing new laws in parliament every 8 minutes, only confirms that they are very afraid and trying to activate the repressive machine as much as possible and make it even more repressive," Khidasheli said.
