Grigol Gegelia: 74 days since Trump took office, and pressure on Georgian Dream’s regime is only increasing

One of the leaders of "Strong Georgia," Grigol Gegelia, highlighted the failure of Georgian Dream’s propaganda efforts to present the idea that things would change in their favor after Trump took office on January 20.

"It has been 74 days, and we see that not only has nothing changed in favor of the Georgian Dream’s criminal, disgraceful, Russian-Chinese-Iranian regime, but on the contrary, pressure against this regime is constantly increasing," said Gegelia.

According to him, the United States and all other civilized nations are taking the right stance, supporting the victory of democracy in Georgia.

"At a time when opposition leaders are being prosecuted in Georgia, the U.S. State Department states that the Georgian Dream government continues its anti-democratic actions, which contradict the positions of the U.S. administration and Vice President Vance, who clearly stated that a democratic mandate cannot be achieved through censorship, imprisonment of opponents, or disregarding the will of the electorate.

While the judiciary has turned into a tool of political retribution rather than justice, the United Kingdom has sanctioned the infamous 'clan' responsible for the deep-rooted problems in Georgia’s judicial system—not only under the current government but historically and traditionally.

As Mamuka Khazaradze and Badri Japaridze face prosecution, the U.S. Helsinki Commission warns that the potential transfer of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port project to China-backed corrupt institutions is alarming and contradicts Georgia’s national security interests.

Meanwhile, the 'Friends of Georgia Act' mandates the U.S. government to investigate Russian and Chinese influence in the country, which is crucial. Another legislative act requires an assessment of Chinese influence in strategic ports, further demonstrating the clear stance of the new U.S. administration in support of the democratic protests of the Georgian people. This is further evidenced by the unanimous support for the 'Friends of Georgia Act' in the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

The U.S. State Department, the Helsinki Commission, and the U.S. Congress, through their statements and actions, are directly supporting the democratic protests of the Georgian people and our national objectives.

We see that the pressure is not decreasing but only intensifying.

I want to emphasize the total failure of Georgian Dream’s propaganda, which attempted to convince people that Trump’s return to power on January 20 would bring changes in their favor. Today is April 3, 74 days have passed, and we see that not only has nothing changed in favor of the Georgian Dream’s criminal, disgraceful, Russian-Chinese-Iranian regime, but on the contrary, pressure against this regime is continuously growing.

The United States and all other civilized nations are maintaining the correct stance—supporting democracy in Georgia, calling for new elections, ensuring the completion of the Anaklia Deep-Sea Port project with Georgian-American and European investments, and ultimately securing the best interests of the Georgian people," Gegelia stated.
