Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, has been officially charged. He left the investigative agency a few minutes ago.

As Japaridze notes, he does not know when the court will consider imposing a preventive measure on him.

"I was accused of not appearing before the so-called investigative commission. I don't know what the next steps will be for the prosecutor's office, let's wait. It is clear that the current repressive regime uses the prosecutor's office and the court to take revenge on its opponents. Both the prosecutor's office and the court are absolutely privatized, and these institutions will definitely be freed as soon as the Georgian Dream leaves power in a democratic manner," said Badri Japaridze.

For information, the case concerns the investigation launched into the fact of failure to comply with the lawful request of the temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament. Japaridze did not appear before the said commission, after which he was summoned to give testimony.

The investigation is being conducted under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to "failure to comply with the request of the temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament." This is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, with deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in activity for a term of up to three years.
