Levan Samushia: The so-called “Commission for the Betrayal of Georgia” is a commission without a constitution – half of its members must be from the opposition, and even though the so-called clowns were labeled as opposition, it still doesn’t make up 50%

According to Levan Samushia, a member of Lelo – For a Strong Georgia, all decisions made by the temporary investigative commission established in Parliament are in violation of the Constitution of Georgia.

He explained that half of the commission’s members must be representatives of the opposition.

"The Russian political force that has usurped power has created a commission aimed at suppressing political opponents and acting against Georgia's national interests, calling it a so-called investigative commission. The acts of persecution are clear, and we all see that leaders of Strong Georgia are being targeted.

A certain group of people gathered in Parliament. First, they called themselves the Parliament; then, from within that group, they selected clowns and called them the opposition; after that, they created the so-called investigative commission. Despite all this falsification and its obvious contradiction with the Constitution of Georgia, they couldn't even formally make it appear as if the commission aligned with constitutional standards.

Let me tell you, this so-called investigative commission is fake and formally violates Article 42 of the Constitution of Georgia, which clearly states that half of the commission’s members must be from the opposition. They called these so-called clowns the opposition, but even in that case, they do not make up 50% of the members.

Therefore, the so-called 'Commission for the Betrayal of Georgia' is a commission without constitutional legitimacy, and every decision it makes contradicts the Constitution. As for the claim from the Prosecutor’s Office today, that a quota was supposedly allocated to Gakharia’s party and they’re trying to use that to justify the commission’s legitimacy — it won’t work. The Constitution of Georgia explicitly says that half of the members must be from the opposition. Members have names and surnames — quotas do not. Therefore, the political force that has seized power is completely illegitimate. The so-called investigative commission is entirely unlawful, both in essence and in form," said Levan Samushia.
