Political parties and individuals with declared electoral goals will no longer be able to organize lectures, seminars, or other similar public events with the support of foreign organizations.
The Parliament has been presented with amendments to the "Law on Political Associations of Citizens" for expedited consideration. As a result of the amendments, international organizations will no longer have the ability to organize lectures, seminars, and other public events for political parties.
The author and initiator of the project is the "Georgian Dream" faction.
According to the current law, political parties are prohibited from accepting donations from foreign individuals who do not have Georgian citizenship, and from legal entities or other associations registered inside or outside of Georgia, except for the free organization of lectures, seminars, or similar public events. The current law also specifies that the restrictions provided by the law do not apply to international organizations and legal entities whose goal is the institutional development of parties, as long as it does not involve supporting or refraining from supporting any political force.
The draft law introduced in Parliament removes this provision from the "Law on Political Associations of Citizens."
