Guram Macharashvili: If the commission completes its work within the required deadline, within a month, the chances of the National Movement as a political party being restricted from its political activities as early as possible will increase

Guram Macharashvili, a member of the investigative commission investigating the activities of the National Movement government, proposes to the commission to file a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court to ban the National Movement as a political party before the local elections.

According to him, if the commission completes its work within the required deadline, within a month, the chances of the National Movement as a political party being restricted from its political activities as early as possible will increase.

As Macharashvili stated at the commission session, the National Movement and its satellites have announced that they will not participate in the local elections, although they do not know “what the master will dictate to them from abroad.”

“In reality, the public sees more evidence than may be necessary to prove that this collective National Movement as a political force does not exist. The very fact that the period after 2012 has already been added to the commission is good in that the public will see the wrong and anti-state actions of the National Movement not only before 2012, but also after 2012. We know that procedurally, in accordance with the regulations, the Parliament ends the spring session on the last Friday of June. Accordingly, if the work of the commission continues until June 5, it is good, this work is really voluminous, especially since we have added it. However, we know that the purpose of this commission is to draw up a conclusion, on the basis of which we also aim to file a [claim] with the relevant agency, the Constitutional Court, so that the National Movement no longer exists. We know that this also has its own procedures. Therefore, wouldn't this somehow contribute to the process being dragged out somehow? The National Movement and its satellites have announced that they will not participate in the self-government elections, but we don't know what their boss will dictate to them from abroad. If the commission completes its work within the required deadline, within a month, the chances of the National Movement as a political party being restricted from its political activities as early as possible will increase," said Guram Macharashvili.

His position on filing a constitutional lawsuit to ban the National Movement is also shared by the members of the commission.
