The Parliament's Temporary Investigative Commission to Appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office over Giorgi Vashadze’s Failure to Appear at the Session

The Parliament's Temporary Investigative Commission will appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the absence of Strategy Aghmashenebeli leader Giorgi Vashadze from the commission's session.

Additionally, the commission has summoned another politician, one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia, urging him to appear before the session. Otherwise, his case will also be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for further action.

The Chairperson of the Temporary Investigative Commission studying the activities of the United National Movement government, Tea Tsulukiani, made the following statement:

“We had to delay opening the session to the public because the first individual summoned for explanation before the commission was Mr. Giorgi Vashadze, who was invited to appear at 10:00 AM. As you all can see, it is now 11:30 AM. It was procedurally and unequivocally clear to him that he had to appear today before the commission at 10:00 AM. A reasonable amount of time has passed since the scheduled appearance, and he has not shown up. It is documented that he was aware of the date and time he was summoned, yet an hour and a half has passed, and he still hasn’t arrived. Accordingly, I am putting the matter to a vote — that Mr. Giorgi Vashadze’s case be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office regarding a possible violation of Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

Nika Melia has also been summoned to the session, and I urge him to attend. Otherwise, we will be forced to make the same decision as we just did in Mr. Giorgi Vashadze’s case,” Tsulukiani stated during the commission meeting.
