The Parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission will also appeal to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia regarding Nika Melia due to his failure to appear at the session

The Temporary Investigative Commission examining the activities of the former United National Movement government will appeal to the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding Nika Melia due to his failure to appear at a scheduled session.

As the commission chair, Tea Tsulukiani, stated, since Melia did not attend the session to provide an explanation, it is the commission’s duty to refer the case to the Prosecutor’s Office.

"Today at 1:00 PM, Mr. Nika Melia was summoned to provide an explanation. He was officially notified, and the Secretariat has documentation confirming he received it and was aware that he was expected to attend. Unlike other individuals summoned, he acted with disrespect toward the Secretariat and disregarded the notice. I still hoped he would come to his senses and appear at the session. That’s why, when we saw at 1:00 PM that he hadn’t shown up at the pass bureau, we held off on putting the matter to a vote, even until now — it's 4:00 PM — because everyone has the right to reconsider their actions. In criminal law, even reversing a decision to commit a crime has legal significance. But it seems this is not such a case. It appears he chose to violate Article 349 of the Criminal Code. In such a case, it is our duty to decide whether or not to refer Nika Melia’s case to the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Tsulukiani.

Following this, the commission unanimously voted to refer Nika Melia’s case to the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia.

Nika Melia’s case has been sent to the Prosecutor’s Office. It is now 4:00 PM, and before the end of the working day, we will do our best to compile all relevant documents and submit them to the prosecution authorities,” Tsulukiani added.

It is noteworthy that due to a similar failure to appear, the commission also referred the case of Strategy Aghmashenebeli leader Giorgi Vashadze for further action today.

As for upcoming sessions and agendas, Tsulukiani noted that the commission will reconvene on Monday. After that, due to upcoming holidays, next week’s final session will be held on Wednesday. The exact time and agenda will be announced later.
