Certain details are becoming known regarding the death of a 13-year-old boy who fell into the elevator shaft of the so-called "Titanic" building in the Avchala settlement.

According to locals, the boy fell into the shaft two days ago. Emergency services took him to the hospital alive, but his condition was critical, and he later died in the hospital.

One of the residents, Khatuna Chkhaidze, stated that the building where the incident occurred has been in a state of disrepair for years.

She also said that residents have appealed to City Hall multiple times, asking to be relocated to safer housing, but to no avail.

“We’ve been living in a dangerous building for years. We’re asking the City Hall and the district administration to relocate us. We even hired lawyers, but we’re still getting nowhere. The result is this terrible tragedy. We’ve contacted City Hall many times — with letters, private lawyers, group legal actions — and this is the result. In the end, everyone signed a statement. They took us to Kerch Street and told us a new residential building would be built there, but that also turned out to be a lie. We’ve been stuck in this situation for years,” said Khatuna Chkhaidze.

She also mentioned that today she personally called a representative of the municipality and asked them to come to the site, but no one showed up.

“I called and told them that the media is here, people have come out — come over and tell your side of the story. But no one has come yet,” Chkhaidze said.

In addition, other locals claim this is not the first such incident and that similar cases have happened before.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs told 'InterpressNews' that an investigation has been launched under Article 124 of the Criminal Code, which refers to causing less severe or severe injury through negligence.
