Giorgi Gakharia: You, the majority, supported the position that it would have been a mistake to arrest Nika Melia in that manner and on that night, however, it seems that an invisible man got involved in managing the processes and made you all change your mind

You, the majority, supported the position that it would have been a mistake to arrest Nika Melia in that manner and on that night, however, even then, on February 18, 2021, an invisible man apparently got involved in managing the processes and made you all change your mind - I have a well-founded and reasonable suspicion that something similar may have happened on June 20, 2019, - the former Minister of Internal Affairs and leader of the Gakharia for Georgia party, Giorgi Gakharia, stated at the session of the temporary investigative commission.

According to him, on June 20, he was defending the state, not the party or the government.

“As for the context of June 20, I declare with full responsibility that on June 20, I was defending the state in this building, not the party, not the government, not individual people, but the state. At that time, I tell you absolutely honestly, I was convinced that the discovery of Gavrilov in the chair of the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia was an idiotic mistake, but today I no longer think so. I will explain why, because the processes that took place later, on February 18, 2021, the night of my resignation, very much repeated everything that happened on June 20. You are a living example of this, Mrs Chairwoman. I will remind you, and I also just remembered, that on that very night, you, like many others, when I was providing information to the government about the current operational situation, you, the majority supported the position that it would have been a mistake to arrest Melia in that manner and on that night. I remember exactly your words that you, as the former Minister of Justice, thought that this would have been a big mistake. However, even then, on February 18, 2021, an invisible man, it seems, got involved in managing the processes and you all changed your mind, in exactly one hour, each of you, everyone disappeared. Today, I have a well-founded and reasonable suspicion that something similar might happen on June 20, 2019. As for June 20, regarding June 20, Mrs Chairwoman, I have testified twice to the Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia. I do not change my testimonies. I hope and you had the right to do so, you have requested the materials and you have seen my interrogation and the answers given. I hope you are prepared for this meeting," Gakharia said.
