Giorgi Gakharia: A list of 10-12 Russian citizens was submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the names of which were much more odious than Gavrilov - we categorically refused to allow these people in, but this was followed by calls, requests from the parliament

A list of 10-12 Russian citizens was submitted to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the names of which were much more odious than Gavrilov - we categorically refused to allow these people in, but this was followed by calls, requests from the parliament - Kobakhidze took responsibility and what happened we all saw, - former Minister of Internal Affairs Giorgi Gakharia stated at the session of the temporary investigative commission of the parliament.

According to him, there was blackmail that if Russian citizens were not allowed into the country, the country would be embroiled in an international scandal.

As Gakharia says, on the night of June 20, he could not get in touch with any of the people who took responsibility for bringing Gavrilov to Georgia and for the development of possible processes.

"When this event was planned to be held in Georgia, the Ministry of Internal Affairs received a list of Russian citizens who were scheduled to enter. Then we, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as well as the State Security Service, categorically refused to allow these people to enter. There were about 10 or 12 people on the list. There were much more odious surnames than Gavrilov. Some of them had violated the law, this gentleman had not violated the law, but we had the opportunity, based on political expediency, not to allow this man in. We said that we would not allow this, which was followed by requests from the parliament. We categorically refused to allow these people to enter. After that, we went into so much detail about this issue, because it was a really serious risk, then the leadership of the parliament took specific responsibility. This leadership of the parliament was Kobakhidze. You say he was outside the country, but was it me drinking wine with that Gavrilov?! Did I put Gavrilov in the parliament seat?! This event was international and they started blackmailing us with it, saying that the country would be embroiled in an international scandal. We were categorically against his arrival. Then they said that someone else would be the leader of this conference. After that, we all aw what happened. That evening, they took him to a restaurant, they drank wine, them he got on a plane and left. This was the truth and reality. I couldn't call anyone who took responsibility for bringing this man to Georgia. We couldn't find a single politically responsible person online. This is the reality," Gakharia said.
