Mikheil Kavelashvili has arrived in the Republic of Azerbaijan on his first official visit. As part of the visit, Mikheil Kavelashvili will hold meetings with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, as well as with the Prime Minister.
As Georgia’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, told journalists, the meetings will cover issues of bilateral cooperation and regional security.
"The President’s first foreign visit begins in the Republic of Azerbaijan. As you know, Azerbaijan is Georgia’s strategic partner and a friendly country. It is very important that the first official visit is being made to Azerbaijan. High-level meetings will be held with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev, as well as with the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the National Assembly. A number of bilateral cooperation issues will be discussed, along with regional security matters and significant economic projects between our countries. I would especially like to emphasize renewable energy topics and several mega-projects being implemented between our nations," Pataradze stated.
Kavelashvili’s visit to Azerbaijan will conclude on April 16.
