The temporary parliamentary investigative commission is a direct attempt to rewrite history — to give Putin the conclusion, as a gift, that we started the war ourselves, politician Givi Targamadze told journalists at the courthouse before the start of proceedings related to his case.

According to him, “the commission is a Russian order.”

“There’s no doubt left, especially after the commission chairman informed us that Georgia’s national hero, Giorgi Antsukhelidze, ‘was a victim of someone’s PR.’ It’s clear what this commission was created for. It can be said directly that this is a Russian order. The essence is being replaced — they want to give Putin a conclusion as a gift, stating that we started the war ourselves, which he will later use against Ukraine, claiming that Ukraine started the war itself, and so on. It’s a direct attempt to rewrite history,” said Givi Targamadze.

For reference, the Prosecutor's Office has charged politician Givi Targamadze. He has been charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns “failure to comply with a request by the temporary investigative commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This offense is punishable by a fine or imprisonment for up to one year, and/or deprivation of the right to hold office or engage in professional activities for up to three years.

As is known, Givi Targamadze was summoned to the temporary investigative commission in Parliament on April 3 but refused to appear. He was questioned by a magistrate judge on April 11.
