This is my first foreign visit as President of Georgia, which emphasizes the strategic and special good-neighborly relations between Georgia and Azerbaijan. It was important for me to make this visit to Azerbaijan soon after taking up this position, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated at a joint press conference after his meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
According to Kavelashvili, friendship is based on mutual respect and consideration of each other's national interests.
“A unique friendship has been established between our peoples over the centuries, which creates a solid foundation for further strengthening cooperation in the future. Preservation of national identity, respect for traditions, culture and our history are the basic principles that our peoples are especially careful about. Our friendship is based on mutual respect and consideration of each other’s national interests. We understand well how important trust is in relations and we know the value of our word. We have a set of unwritten laws and values that have saved us and that brought us to this day,” Kavelashvili noted.
In addition, he noted that in order to effectively deal with the challenges in the region and the world, close cooperation in all directions is especially important.
"We are implementing a number of common, mutually beneficial projects, which makes our region even more attractive to the whole world. In order for the South Caucasus region to be even more competitive, reliable and promising, it is important to ensure lasting peace and stability. I would like to emphasize that Georgia and Azerbaijan firmly support each other's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and I would like to thank Mr. President for this once again. Georgia has always been a strong supporter of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan," Kavelashvili said.
