Kakha Kaladze on changing the location of May 26 events: What’s wrong with that? Orbeliani is one of the best places – Locations can change, maybe even to avoid confrontation

“What’s wrong with that? Orbeliani is one of the best places – can’t locations be changed? Maybe it’s also about preventing confrontations,” – this is how Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze responded to journalists' questions regarding the change of location for events dedicated to May 26 (Georgia's Independence Day).

According to Kaladze, the government holds a higher level of responsibility.

“What’s wrong with that? Orbeliani is one of the best locations – rehabilitated, beautified, with new cultural heritage monuments. It’s a wonderful place. What’s the problem? Can’t the venue be changed?! For example, we had the Christmas tree on Republic Square. Maybe it’s about avoiding confrontation. We are the government, and of course, we bear more responsibility than the radicals,” Kaladze said.

For context, the Government of Georgia has approved the action plan for organizing events dedicated to May 26.

According to the document, the events will be held at Alexander’s Garden, Orbeliani Street, and the surrounding areas.
