The threat of the EU suspending visa liberalization is real – the responsibility for meeting the EU’s requirements lies with them [“Georgian Dream”], said Lana Galdava, a member of the “Lelo – Strong Georgia” coalition, in regard to the possible suspension of visa liberalization by the European Union.
According to her, there has been regression in Georgia in terms of both human rights protection and democratic development, and it is precisely for these reasons that the EU has taken such an attitude toward Georgia.
“The threat of the EU suspending visa liberalization is real, but at the same time, ‘Georgian Dream’ must take into account the fact that the responsibility for meeting the EU’s requirements lies with them.
For the European Union, the rule of law, the protection of human rights, and the development of democracy are fundamental. However, in Georgia, we are seeing regression in all these areas – both in terms of human rights and democratic progress. That is why we are witnessing this kind of attitude from the EU. Therefore, it is clear that the responsibility lies with ‘Georgian Dream,’” said Lana Galdava.
