Maka Bochorishvili: Georgia has become a clear example of open attempts at foreign interference in the country’s internal political affairs – attempts to use the OSCE for narrow political interests are unacceptable

Georgia has become a clear example of open attempts at foreign interference in the country’s internal political affairs – any attempts by certain actors to use the OSCE’s independent institutions as political instruments for narrow political interests, and against the sovereignty of the country, are unacceptable, said Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili at a joint press conference held after a meeting with the OSCE Secretary General, Feridun Sinirlioğlu.

She also stated that Georgia will continue implementing ODIHR’s recommendations.

"Georgia respects the independent institutions of the OSCE. For us, it is unacceptable that certain actors attempt to use these institutions as political tools to serve narrow political interests and act against the sovereignty of the country. In recent times, Georgia has become a clear example of open attempts at foreign interference in the internal political life of the country. We also often witness attempts to misuse international institutions, which contradicts the fundamental principles on which the international order is based — principles that international organizations are obliged to uphold.

The Government of Georgia is committed to the OSCE and the principles of international law, and it expects the same from its partners. The government has repeatedly demonstrated its trust in the OSCE. A clear example of this was the invitation extended to the OSCE/ODIHR to observe the parliamentary elections last year, and the full support provided for the mission’s work. ODIHR's recommendations are important to us, and we are ready to continue cooperating to implement them," Bochorishvili stated.
