Davit Matikashvili on the OSCE Secretary General’s visit – This visit is a confirmation for the radical opposition that their attempts to create legitimacy issues for a legitimately elected government are worthless

No visit grants legitimacy to a country’s government—legitimacy comes from the people, from society – certain opposition figures, their supporters, and those giving them orders from outside the country are in a state of complete hysteria, said Davit Matikashvili, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, in response to a question about the visit of OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioğlu to Georgia.

According to him, this visit is yet another confirmation for the radical opposition that their attempts to create legitimacy issues for the Georgian government have collapsed. Matikashvili stated that the opposition’s plans regarding Georgia have been nullified.

“No visit grants legitimacy to the country’s government. Legitimacy is granted by society and the people, who very clearly and unequivocally expressed their views during the parliamentary elections. On the contrary, this visit is further proof for radical opposition members that the absurdity they tried to drag both Georgian society and the international community into has collapsed, and that any attempts to question the legitimacy of Georgia’s legitimately elected government are completely worthless. This is another clear step—one of many—where representatives of our country’s government meet with heads of significant and authoritative international organizations. This says everything.

As for the opposition—certain opposition members, their supporters, and those giving them directions from abroad are in full-blown hysteria. This clearly shows how helpless and fruitless the path of radicalism is, as well as that of their Wilson-like supporters from outside the country. Their plans regarding our country have been neutralized. They will not succeed in creating a situation in which our country becomes involved in war or disaster,” Matikashvili stated.
