One of the leaders of the “For the People – Strong Georgia” coalition, Ana Dolidze, responded on social media to the tragedy that occurred in Foladaantkari.
As Dolidze writes, the municipality is obligated to fence off dangerous reservoirs, designate swimming zones, and station lifeguards on site.
"I express my sorrow over the tragedy that happened in Foladaantkari. It’s a very heavy and heartbreaking incident. I extend my condolences to the family members and loved ones. The local population has long been demanding the removal of the lake that claimed the lives of a father and his children.
In 2018, we launched the campaign 'Swim Safely,' within which we called on the local authorities to take on their responsibilities and take effective steps to eliminate death zones in their area. The municipality is obligated to fence off dangerous reservoirs or lakes, define swimming zones, and assign lifeguards on site, as well as install warning signs, etc. We have been demanding the implementation of all this since 2018, but nothing has been done in this direction, aside from one or two isolated cases. As a result, we are faced with such tragic incidents, which are increasing year by year,” wrote Ana Dolidze on Facebook.
