CEC Chairman meets with OSCE Secretary General

A meeting was held at the Central Election Commission with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Feridun Sinirlioğlu.

As stated in the information released by the CEC, the Chairman of the CEC Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Deputy Chairman Giorgi Sharabidze provided the OSCE Secretary General and members of the delegation with information about both last year’s elections and the preparations of municipal bodies for the October 4 elections.

“The CEC Chairman spoke in detail at the meeting about the October 26 parliamentary elections of Georgia and the large-scale introduction of electronic technologies. The challenges facing the elections were discussed. The parties also discussed the status of implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations and the future plans of the election administration in this direction. It was noted that it is important to further deepen cooperation with OSCE/ODIHR, which will facilitate joint efforts to develop the election processes.

The main topic of the meeting was also the municipal elections to be held on October 4. Giorgi Kalandarishvili and Giorgi Sharabidze discussed in detail how the election administration is preparing both legally and technically and logistically to conduct the elections at a highly professional level, in accordance with international standards. The participants of the meeting also discussed the challenges facing the election administration in general and ways to solve them.

In conclusion, the parties agreed on the need to continue cooperation in the future.

The meeting held at the CEC was also attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Austria Aleksandre Maisuradze, OSCE Special Representative Terhi Hakala, and Director of the Conflict Prevention Center Catherine Fearon,” reads the press release.
