One of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," Zurab Japaridze, explained why they do not plan to meet with the OSCE Secretary General, Feridun Sinirlioğlu.
As he told Interpressnews, the OSCE Secretary General has not made any statement regarding the political crisis in Georgia.
According to Japaridze, the visit gives the impression that Feridun Sinirlioğlu came to Georgia merely as a formality.
"The reason is the same as when the president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly visited. That visit wasn't coordinated with us, and we didn't even know he was coming. Upon arrival, he met with representatives of the regime, including Kavelashvili. They contacted us later and decided they wanted to talk to us. Everyone knows that the regime uses these types of visits to legitimize itself — to pretend they are legitimate, that there are no problems with the West, that everything is fine. That's why such visits should not be planned without coordination with other opposition actors. Our principled position is that, whether they are from Europe or international organizations, anyone visiting Georgia should have a clear purpose for coming. If you're the OSCE, the first thing you should do is meet with the families of political prisoners, try to enter prisons to see those who have been detained, meet the people who were tortured in the streets in early December, and so on. None of this happened. This visit gives the impression that it was made just to check a box. He held a press conference but didn’t say a single word about the problems the country is facing. There is a severe political crisis in the country, and not a word was said about it," said Zurab Japaridze.
For reference, members of the "Coalition for Change" have stated that their representatives do not intend to meet with the OSCE Secretary General, Feridun Sinirlioğlu. As noted in a statement released by their press service, “clarity and consistency are essential in order to defeat the regime and achieve the historic goal of the Georgian people.”
