According to the Ministry, the changes are being “intentionally misinterpreted” to suggest that Georgia is easing border entry requirements for citizens of certain countries.
“We would like to provide the public with detailed information about the amendments adopted on April 17, 2025, which define the list of countries whose visa and/or residence permit holders are allowed to enter and stay in Georgia without a visa, under specific conditions and for a defined period.
Due to the fact that certain media outlets and social media users are intentionally spreading misinformation that these changes ease border entry for citizens of specific countries, we clarify that:
The amendments made on April 17, 2025, to the Government of Georgia’s Decree of June 5, 2015, titled ‘On the approval of the list of countries whose visa and/or residence permit holders may enter Georgia without a visa under specific terms and conditions,’ actually serve to tighten the entry requirements for citizens of certain countries and aim to combat illegal migration.
According to the previous version of the decree, citizens of the listed countries were already allowed to enter Georgia if they held a visa or residence permit from the Gulf countries. However, there were no specific requirements regarding the validity period of those visas. The updated changes introduce stricter requirements.
From now on, Gulf country visas and/or residence permits will not grant entry and stay in Georgia without a visa unless, as of the date of entry (border crossing), the multiple-entry visa or residence permit has a validity of at least one year, which must be confirmed by a travel or other relevant document.
Specifically, the restriction applies to citizens of the following countries who hold Gulf country visas or residence permits: Islamic Republic of Afghanistan; People’s Republic of Bangladesh; Republic of Ghana; Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia; State of Eritrea; Republic of Yemen; Republic of Cameroon; Republic of Côte d'Ivoire; Democratic Republic of the Congo; Kingdom of Morocco; Federal Republic of Nigeria; Islamic Republic of Pakistan; Federal Republic of Somalia; Syrian Arab Republic; Republic of the Sudan; United Republic of Tanzania; Republic of Uganda, – as stated in the official information.
