Amid the current difficult geopolitical situation in the world, we continue to deepen the close political, economic and people-to-people ties between our countries - Georgia and Armenia have exemplary bilateral cooperation in many areas, - Mikheil Kavelashvili stated at the joint briefing after his meeting with Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturian.
According to him, in a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, establishing stability and peace in the region is gaining increasing importance.
“I am pleased to be paying my first official visit to the Republic of Armenia as the President of Georgia. I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding hospitality. During the meeting with my colleague, I noted with satisfaction that, against the backdrop of the current difficult geopolitical situation in the world, we continue to deepen the close political, economic and people-to-people ties between our countries. Georgia and Armenia have exemplary bilateral cooperation in many areas. Last year, we signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement, which is another confirmation of strong friendly relations and paves the way for deeper and more comprehensive cooperation in all areas.
Armenia is one of Georgia’s most important trade partners. Every year, a large number of visitors from Armenia visit our country, and it is always in the top three in terms of the number of visitors. I once again confirmed to my colleague Georgia’s unconditional support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia. The stability, success and progress of Armenia are in our interests.
I would also like to personally, on behalf of myself and the Georgian people, to thank you for your firm and unwavering support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-recognition policy of Georgia. Our stated policy is to promote peace and stability, and we reaffirm the commitment of the Georgian government to the policy of peaceful resolution of the conflict, which is based on the de-occupation of the two regions of Georgia by Russia and the tasks of reconciliation and engagement between the populations divided by the occupation line. In a rapidly changing geopolitical environment, the establishment of stability and peace in the region is gaining increasing importance. Georgia unequivocally welcomes the statement of Armenia and Azerbaijan on the completion of negotiations on the terms of a peace agreement on March 13, 2025. We believe that this is the beginning of an important process that requires further joint efforts to create a peaceful, secure, stable and developed South Caucasus region. We hope that in the near future Armenia and Azerbaijan will sign a peace agreement, which will take the dynamics of positive development of the South Caucasus and the attractiveness of the region to a qualitatively new level.
At the meeting, we also talked about the trilateral meeting to be held in Tbilisi on April 17, 2025, which represents the beginning of a process of trilateral mutually beneficial cooperation of the countries of the South Caucasus region. Georgia firmly supports the process of establishing peace and stability in the South Caucasus. We are ready to deepen regional cooperation in all directions and make our small contribution to the formation of a just and peaceful, multipolar international order. I am pleased that the Days of Georgian Culture will be held in Yerevan on June 5-7 of this year. We look forward to holding the Days of Armenian Culture in Tbilisi next year, which will once again showcase the rich heritage, traditions and modern achievements of Armenian culture.
Respect and appreciation for the unique traditions and history of our countries are the main values that unite our peoples. Protecting state sovereignty, national identity and cultural identity is the main priority of our countries. Exemplary, centuries-old friendship and strategic partnership provide us with a solid foundation to further develop this distinctive relationship,” Kavelashvili said.
