One of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Nika Melia, who is accused of refusing to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament, was granted bail of 50,000 GEL as a preventive measure.
The aforementioned decision was made by Tbilisi City Court Judge Lela Maridashvili. She set the defendant a 30-day period to pay the bail.
As prosecutor Natia Tatiashvili noted in her motion, there is a risk that Melia will abscond and commit new crimes. According to the prosecutor, the defendant is indifferent to the obligations provided for by law, based on the aforementioned actions in the past.
According to the prosecutor, after examining the defendant’s financial situation, they concluded that the 50,000 GEL bail is the amount that Nika Melia will be able to pay. The prosecution believes that the amount of bail should have a deterrent factor, in this case 50,000 GEL. The payment term should be set at 30 days.
Nika Melia also spoke at the court hearing, as Melia himself stated, the prosecution serves neither the truth nor justice.
“The fact that I am here today does not mean that I agree with you. 50,000 GEL bail is unfair. Neither I nor my friends accept that. Tsulukiani’s commission is illegal from beginning to end. As an employee of Murusidze, of course, you do not know this. You do not serve the truth or honor,” Melia addressed the judge.
