Tbilisi City Court fines representatives of Girchi - More Freedom and Akhali press services, Ana Kurashvili and Miranda Baghaturia, 4,000 GEL each

Tbilisi City Court fined representatives of the press service of Girchi - More Freedom and Akhali, Ana Kurashvili and Miranda Baghaturia, 4,000 GEL each. They were charged with insulting police officer Mirian Kavtaradze under Part 2 of Article 173 of the Code of Administrative Offenses. The Ministry of Internal Affairs requested pre-trial detention for both of them.

The announcement of the decision was followed by a commotion. Several people were expelled from the courtroom.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the incident occurred when police officer Mirian Kavtaradze was being questioned as a victim-witness at the trial of Saba Skhvitaridze, who is accused of attacking a police officer, and was leaving the courthouse.
