The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denies reports about the abolition of the Directorate General for European Integration.

As stated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a result of the reform, a Political Directorate for European Affairs will be established, which will unite the Europe and European Integration Departments.

“The information that the Directorate General for European Integration will be abolished in the Ministry is not true. As a result of the reform, a Political Directorate for European Affairs will be established, which will unite the Europe and European Integration Departments. In turn, 4 divisions will be established in the European Integration Department, which will serve the country’s EU integration agenda. The creation of the directorate will additionally facilitate the effective coordination of relations with European countries in order to fulfill the aforementioned tasks,” reads the statement.

For information, according to Grigol Gegelia, a member of the coalition Lelo-Strong Georgia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Georgian Dream, Botchorishvili, is officially abolishing the Directorate General for European Integration and dismissing 250 employees.
