German Embassy: Democracy is unthinkable without free media - wherever there is no press freedom, human rights violations are common

The German Embassy in Georgia has released a statement on social media on World Press Freedom Day.

The post states that on World Press Freedom Day, the German Embassy thanks all media representatives for their work. According to them, where there is no press freedom, human rights violations are common.

“Press freedom is a fundamental right and the cornerstone of all democracies.

Democracy is unthinkable without free media. The media provides the public with news, draws attention to problems and contributes to the formation of opinion. Media representatives can only do this if the media environment is free, diverse and independent.

Wherever there is no press freedom, human rights violations are common.

On World Press Freedom Day, we thank all media representatives for their work,” reads the statement.
