One of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, Davit Usupashvili, believes that holding a plebiscite along with local self-government elections can be seriously discussed if certain guarantees are provided.

In particular, on PalitraNews the politician responded to the idea that one of the most optimal ways to defuse the political crisis is to hold a plebiscite along with local self-government elections in October 2025, where voters will decide whether they want to hold early parliamentary elections or not.

Usupashvili believes that this should be a “grand plan” that will have serious support and participation of the international community.

According to the oppositionist, the more such proposals or issues are discussed, the better, and similar schemes are needed, because dreamy elections and a "magic ball" that will make the country shine will not "fall from the sky."

He also spoke about the risks and highlighted the problems in the context of last year's parliamentary elections.

“If we add even one component to this scheme, then we might seriously consider it.

The first issue is the government, which is one-party and authoritarian, oriented to the principle -one said and everyone repeats, this should not happen to the other, the opposition side.

There is often an initiative, an idea, and then its stoning to such an extent that a person no longer has the desire to say anything. The more such proposals or issues are discussed, the better, we should discuss it.

My first reaction would be what kind of elections are being held. After all, this is an electoral process, a plebiscite also needs a ballot, it is paper.... All the problems that we saw in the parliamentary elections, even before on election day....

Something must be guaranteed, for example, that this is a grand plan that has serious support, the participation of the international community, that this is a way to defuse and move forward, that it has trust in the participating parties, institutional guarantees”, he said.

In addition, Usupashvili spoke on the program about the current situation in power. According to Usupashvili, there is an "unprecedented chaos" in government circles.

According to the oppositionist, this is also evidenced by recent changes, for example, the resignation of the head of the State Security Service, which, in his opinion, was related to "another scene of jealousy."

In the same context, the opposition politician believes that "the more a person expresses his own thoughts, the more unacceptable he is for an authoritarian-totalitarian regime."

Usupashvili noted that today, it is most clearly visible that the government is in crisis.
