We hope that the MEGOBARI Act will not ultimately become a law, or if it is adopted, it will reflect the changes that are rightfully needed to be reflected, - Givi Mikanadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Youth Affairs, told journalists.

According to him, the MEGOBARI Act is actually an unfriendly act towards Georgia and the Georgian people, which is completely out of touch with reality.

"The title of this act absolutely does not correspond to the context presented in this context. It can be said directly that this is an unfriendly act of Georgia and the Georgian people, which in no way reflects reality, is absolutely out of touch with the reality related to the events taking place in Georgia. It is biased in nature. We hope that this act will ultimately either not be adopted at all, or if it is adopted, it will reflect the changes that are rightly needed to be reflected. First of all, this concerns the free will expressed by our population in the parliamentary elections. They supported the Georgian Dream as the ruling team and once again entrusted it with the next 4 years of governing this country. We hope that this act will be adopted if those important postulates are observed. In this regard, the US has more resources, which is important for friendship. It should be especially noted that the visa regime for Georgian citizens should be simplified, direct flights should be launched, and a free trade agreement should be signed with the United States of America. This will make it possible to deepen bilateral relations and return to the dynamic development that is important between two strategic partners.

We hope that this act will not ultimately become a law and that specific legislators will give a fair assessment of everything, after which it will be possible to introduce changes to it so that it truly justifies its name and truly becomes the MEGOBARI Act,” Mikanadze said.

The US House of Representatives will consider the MEGOBARI Act today.

The US Senate Foreign Relations Committee supported the MEGOBARI Act on March 27.

The bill, titled Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence (MEGOBARI) Act, was introduced in the House of Representatives last year by Congressman Joe Wilson, and was reintroduced this year in the 119th Congress by Congressman Steve Cohen [D-USA], Congressman Richard Hudson [R-USA], and Congressman Mark Wiese [D-USA]. According to the congressmen, the MEGOBARI Act expresses support for the Georgian people and provides for sanctions against Georgian officials for, among other things, human rights violations and the undermining of democracy.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
