The "MEGOBARI Act" is not an attack on the Georgian people – this is what Congressman Brian Mast (Republican Party) said in his speech in the U.S. House of Representatives during the discussion of the "MEGOBARI Act."

According to him, Georgia's bilateral relationship with the United States has been shaken by the actions of the ruling "Georgian Dream" party, which repeats Russia’s authoritarian tactics and draws closer to China and Iran.

"Georgia was one of the leading candidates for NATO membership and an ally of the United States, especially after Russia's invasion of Georgia in 2008. The U.S. benefited from cooperation in military and intelligence fields, and the Georgian population is known for its pro-American sentiment. Our bilateral relationship with Georgia has been shaken by the actions of the ruling 'Georgian Dream' party, which mirrors Russia’s authoritarian tactics and moves closer to China and Iran. The opportunities presented by a pro-Western democratic Georgia are clear. Due to its location on the Black Sea, Georgia is a key point for trade through the Middle Corridor and could serve as a balancing force against Iranian and Russian influence in the region," said Brian Mast.

Brian Mast called on his colleagues to support the bill.

"This legislation offers Georgia an alternative. As soon as the President certifies that Georgia has returned to its pro-Western path, the bill provides for strengthening people-to-people ties, military cooperation, and promoting the improvement of bilateral relations. The United States should reward its partners for good behavior. This bill is not an attack on the Georgian people," the Congressman noted.
