The adoption of the "MEGOBARI Act" by the U.S. Congress shows that the international community is closely monitoring developments in Georgia, – the European Commission’s press service told 'InterpressNews'.

The press service noted that the actions taken by the Georgian government are alarming and do not align with the expectations that EU institutions have for a candidate country.

"In general terms, the adoption by the US Congress of the MEGOBAR Act demonstrates that the international community is closely observing the developments in Georgia.

The actions taken by Georgian authorities are alarming and far from anything we would expect from a candidate country.

We call on the Georgian authorities to repeal legislation that is incompatible with EU values.

The EU has reacted by taking measures towards Georgian authorities and in stepping up our support to civil society," the European Commission’s press service told 'InterpressNews'.
