The U.S. Embassy’s Regional Security Office has canceled the recommendation for embassy staff to avoid certain locations, according to a statement released by the U.S. Embassy in Georgia.

According to the statement, on the night of May 7, Georgian law enforcement informed the embassy that no explosive devices were found in any of the three shopping centers mentioned in the alert.

“Following the alert issued by the U.S. Embassy on May 7, Georgian law enforcement informed the embassy late last night that no explosive devices were found in any of the three shopping centers mentioned in the alert. The [U.S.] Regional Security Office has canceled the recommendation that embassy staff avoid these locations,” the embassy’s statement reads.

For context, yesterday the U.S. Embassy released a statement indicating that it had received information about a potential bomb threat at three shopping centers in Tbilisi: East Point, Galleria Tbilisi, and Tbilisi Mall.

In response, the State Security Service of Georgia also issued a statement, saying that relevant divisions of the service were responding to another false alarm. The SSSG called on representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Georgia to act more responsibly and refrain from making public statements without coordinating with the appropriate authorities.
