We will continue to support civil society and the democratic development of Georgia. We will continue to strongly support the Georgian people and Georgian civil society, - Swedish Ambassador Anna Lyberg told InterpressNews.

"Sweden is a long-standing partner of Georgia, and as a long-standing partner, we are concerned about the developments in Georgia, which, unfortunately, are not in line with the values and principles of the Union.

According to the ambassador, Sweden's membership in the European bloc have brought more development and stability.

"We are very happy that this year we also celebrate 30 years of EU membership. EU membership has strengthened Sweden, our economy has grown. We have benefited a lot from the single market and the free movement of people, goods and capital.

So for us this is a clear and positive development. And we also see that in the EU, common challenges require common answers. Together we are truly strong," - said Anna Lyberg.

Regarding the decision to cancel the visa free regime for the holders of Georgian diplomatic and service passports, the ambassador said that Sweden shares the official position of Brussels on decisions taken in relation to Georgia and, like other EU countries, Sweden is following internal procedures in the process of implementing the decision.

”We are following internal procedures to move this process forward.

It is therefore impossible to give a specific date. These are internal procedures that must be completed before this decision can be fully implemented," she said.
