The Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement regarding a traffic accident on the left bank of the Mtkvari River, which resulted in a vehicle falling into the river.
According to the ministry, one person has been safely rescued from the water, while rescue efforts are still ongoing for the other passengers who were in the vehicle.
“As a result of a traffic accident on the left bank of the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi, a vehicle carrying several passengers fell into the river. Upon receiving the emergency call, firefighters and rescuers immediately launched a search and rescue operation, which led to the successful rescue of one person from the water. At this stage, rescue efforts are continuing without interruption for the remaining passengers, with the involvement of divers, watercraft, and all necessary water rescue equipment alongside firefighters and rescuers.
We would like to inform the public that, as part of the ongoing rescue operation in the Mtkvari River, the water level in the riverbed will be lowered to its natural mark, which may affect the normal water flow. We urge the public to exercise caution and refrain from moving around the riverbed area near the Ortachala HPP lower bief,” the statement reads.
