What we went through on May 26 was premeditated, it was a planned operation -- they wanted to punish us seriously there, I call it a massacre, - chess player Nona Gaprindashvili stated at the session of the temporary investigative commission of parliament.
According to her, during the events of May 26, 2011, representatives of law enforcement agencies blocked the exits and left no way for people to escape.
“What we went through on May 26 was planned in advance, it was a planned operation. They wanted to punish us seriously there. I call it a massacre, because what happened there, no one could imagine it. Many rallies have been held, starting from April 9, but there was nothing like this at any of the rallies. There were three cordons around us that day, there was no exit, it was blocked. I mentioned April 9, the terrible day, because people had a way to escape even then. Yes, they were chasing those people, but they had a way to escape, here [on May 26] they didn’t have one,” Gaprindashvili said.
For information, the events of May 26, 2011 will be discussed at today’s session of the investigative commission. Nona Gaprindashvili, Davit Lortkipanidze, Giorgi Burjanadze and Eldar (Luka) Kurtanidze have been invited to the session.
