Everyone who violates the law will be held accountable - will they not pay bail? They will share the same fate as those who did not pay, - the Chairman of the Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, Davit Matikashvili, said while responding to the fact of opposition politicians not paying bail.
According to him, appropriate sanctions will be applied for failure to comply with the rule, law and court orders.
"Everyone who violates the law will be held accountable. They were summoned to a temporary investigation commission and they did not appear, although they knew very well that failure to appear is the ground for criminal liability. They were given bail in the criminal case and they say that they will not pay it. Will they not pay the bail? They will share the same fate as those people who did not pay. Accordingly, as it happens in legal, democratic states - in Europe and the United States, sanctions will be applied in exactly the same way for failure to comply with the rule, law and court orders.
They need this topic to escalate the situation again - to set up a scenario for a play about how the government persecutes political opponents," Matikashvili said.
For information, within the framework of the investigation launched into the fact of non-compliance with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Georgian Parliament, the court has granted bail to several individuals, including opposition politicians. Due to non-payment of bail, the court on May 14 replaced the bail of former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili with detention and detained him in the hall.
Several other politicians, including Nika Gvaramia and Zurab Girchi Japaridze, are not going to pay bail. As for the leaders of Lelo - Strong Georgia, Badri Japaridze and Mamuka Khazaradze have paid the bail imposed by the court.
