Intelligence Service to be transferred to State Security Service’s sphere of governance and transformed into its sub-agency

The Intelligence Service, which is directly subordinate to the Prime Minister, will be transferred to the sphere of governance of the State Security Service. The Intelligence Service will be transformed into a sub-agency of the State Security Service - the National Intelligence Agency.

This is envisaged by the package of legislative amendments planned in 26 laws, which have already been initiated in the Parliament. The draft laws will regulate in a new way the issues related to the activities and powers of the agency, the composition, organization and structure of the agency, the inadmissibility of interference in the official activities of the agency's employees, guarantees of their legal protection, and the financing of the agency.

The initiators of the legislative package are the following Georgian Dream MPs: Aleksandre Tabatadze, Tengiz Sharmanashvili, Gia Benashvili, Archil Gorduladze, Rati Ionatamishvili, Ioseb Jorbenadze, Henrietta Tsitsava, Zviad Shalamberidze and Viktor Japaridze.
