Ana Buchukuri: Melia’s question is rhetorical for us – Yes, we are preparing, including for municipal elections

Ana Buchukuri, one of the leaders of For Georgia (Gakharia – For Georgia), responded to the statement made by Nika Melia, leader of the Coalition for Change, regarding local self-government elections.

According to Buchukuri, the opposition parties' plan after boycotting the municipal elections — so-called phone elections — is unserious.

“For us, of course, this question is rhetorical — Melia himself and everyone else knows this very well. The position of our team, the party Gakharia – For Georgia, is very simple, and I repeat it clearly: we are preparing for any elections, including municipal elections. If we decide not to participate in those elections, you will hear it openly from us, just as we have been saying openly for a long time that we are preparing for any elections.

A few days ago, we posed a very simple, legitimate, and logical question to opposition parties that are boycotting the municipal elections: what is their plan after the boycott? The only thing we’ve heard as a 'plan' is the so-called phone elections. This is not serious. What do these people even think of their voters and their protest?!”

For reference, Coalition for Change leader Nika Melia recently called on opposition parties to give a clear answer about whether they will participate in the upcoming local self-government elections.

According to Melia, “The time of political ambiguity and vagueness is over — now is the time to answer every question: what are they doing — are they entering the farce called local elections or not?”
