“How long must we keep chasing illegality like a lamp dragged behind, with our bail payments? There will be no bail payment!” – said the leader of “Coalition for Change” to journalists.

According to him, the judge can review the issue of pre-trial measures today or after June 7.

"If today a question is raised regarding the bail, I’ve already answered publicly – there will be no bail payment! If they want to review it today, fine. If they want to review it on June 7, the date I’m due to pay, let them do that.

How long should we be dragged after illegality like a lamp tied behind it, with our bail payments? This has to end sometime, doesn’t it?!

At the same time, there are people in prison who were pressured to testify against us – yes, to give false testimony – but still. These people are still in jail, and I should be out? These people were almost tortured because they didn’t testify against me and acted with integrity?! I will not allow this. I will act as I see fit, and others can act as they see fit. In the end, society will be the judge,” said Gvaramia.

For context: as part of the investigation launched over the “failure to comply with a lawful request” of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia, the court imposed a bail of 30,000 GEL on Nika Gvaramia, one of the leaders of “Coalition for Change,” as a preventive measure.

Gvaramia has been charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns “Failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia.” This offense is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to one year, and/or deprivation of the right to hold office or engage in activities for up to three years.

He has been given 50 days to pay the bail, with the deadline set for June 7. Gvaramia has publicly declared that he does not intend to pay the 30,000 GEL bail.
