The only conclusion we can draw from today’s response is that there is no clear position regarding Georgia—especially in the context of discussions related to U.S. national interests. The entire hearing, and not only the hearing, shows that the core of U.S. foreign policy today revolves around American national interests, – said Foreign Minister Maka Bochorishvili.
Bochorishvili was responding to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s answer during a hearing in the U.S. House of Representatives concerning a question related to "Georgian Dream."
As she noted, the question asked by Joe Wilson was entirely “disinformative,” and when assessing Rubio’s answer, "we must consider the full context" of what the discussion was about.
“First of all, before we even talk about Rubio’s response, we should note the question that was voiced in Congress—how it was framed and asked. It came from Joe Wilson, who is well known to us, and the question was based entirely on a disinformative narrative. Every sentence or word spoken in relation to Georgia was completely misleading, entirely disconnected from reality, and none of the positions he voiced reflected the truth. Therefore, first and foremost, we should assess the context in which Georgia was brought up during the congressional hearing. He voiced incorrect information regarding the elections and, of course, about the government as well.
If we assess Wilson’s question—where exactly is there an anti-American government in Georgia? Today, the priorities of our government, ideologically speaking, are fully aligned with the priorities of the new U.S. administration. And against this backdrop, when we evaluate Rubio’s response, we must consider the full context of the discussion and what the main points of emphasis were,” said Maka Bochorishvili on Rustavi 2.
