The court will deliberate today on Zurab Japaridze’s case — Japaridze himself, who refused to pay bail, does not rule out the possibility of being arrested

A court hearing for Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze will be held today at Tbilisi City Court, in connection with his failure to appear before the parliamentary temporary investigative commission. The session is scheduled for 3:00 PM.

The court is expected to deliberate on a possible change to his preventive measure.

Zurab “Girchi” Japaridze himself does not rule out the possibility of being arrested.

“I’m expecting to be detained. There’s a 99% chance I’ll be arrested,” Japaridze stated.

For context, on April 16, the court imposed a bail of 20,000 GEL on the opposition politician for not appearing before the investigative commission. Japaridze refused to pay the amount.

It’s worth noting that due to failure to pay bail, the court previously replaced bail with detention for former Defense Minister Irakli Okruashvili, who was arrested in the courtroom on May 14.
