The Emergency Management Service is releasing a statement regarding the death of mountaineer and mountain guide Nikoloz Faliani on Ushba

According to the Emergency Management Service, the mountaineer and mountain guide Nikoloz Faliani, who fell from a height and died during an expedition, has been brought to Mestia.

They also reported that Nikoloz Faliani was on Mount Ushba with three other individuals, who were rescued safely as part of a rescue operation.

"Based on information received by the Emergency Management Agency, four individuals were moving on foot in Svaneti, on Mount Ushba, one of whom fell from a height.

In the shortest possible time, firefighters and rescuers planned a search and rescue operation, and a Border Police helicopter departed from Tbilisi with a special response team from the Emergency Management Service.

As part of the rescue operation, firefighters and rescuers safely evacuated three individuals by helicopter from an altitude of 3,600 meters and located the body of the deceased.

The body of the deceased man has been transported to Mestia," the statement reads.
