According to the Public Defender, two persons detained on administrative charges in the vicinity of the Tbilisi City Court on May 22 point to alleged use of excessive force and ill-treatment by the police.

As noted in the ombudsman’s statement, one of them had visible injuries on his body, mainly swelling, redness, bruises and scratches on his limbs.

“On May 22, Public Defender's representatives visited two persons detained on administrative charges in the vicinity of the Tbilisi City Court.

The detainees reported alleged use of excessive force and ill-treatment by the police. One of them had visible injuries on his body, mainly swelling, redness, bruises and scratches on his limbs.

The Public Defender's Office has already applied to the Special Investigation Service for an appropriate legal response to the facts of ill-treatment and will continue to monitor the ongoing legal proceedings.
