As a result of the joint complex measures taken by the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Border Police, a total of 6 citizens of Nigeria, Bangladesh, Iran, Turkey and Russia were detained.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that the detained persons were in the country without legal grounds, considering the Law of Georgia “On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons”. They abused the terms provided for in the asylum procedure and had been in the country for years without legal grounds.
"The detainees did not take advantage of the deadlines set by the expulsion decision, which implies voluntary departure from the country, as a result of which the Migration Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a decision to detain the said persons.
In order to enforce the decision, the detained persons are currently being held in the Migration Department's temporary accommodation center with a view to their subsequent return to their country of origin," reads the information.
