May 26 is Georgia's Independence Day. Georgia declared independence on May 26, 1918.

The event dedicated to Georgia’s Independence Day on Freedom Square will begin at 11:00 on May 26.

According to the Ministry of Defense of Georgia, a general rehearsal was held on Freedom Square on May 25. The preparation for the military celebration was led by the Commander of the Defense Forces, Lieutenant General Giorgi Matiashvili. Commanders of various units of the Defense Forces were present to finalize the details together with the director.

In addition to the regular personnel of the Defense Forces, the rehearsal also involved recruits of the National Military Service who will take the military oath in a ceremonial setting on May 26 and join the Defense Forces. Besides Freedom Square, the recruits will take their oath at five other historical sites across the country.

On May 26, as is tradition, residents will have the opportunity to view military equipment, weapons, and gear in 21 cities and municipalities.

Specifically, exhibitions will take place in Tbilisi, Gori, Akhaltsikhe, Mtskheta, Rustavi, Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Ozurgeti, Poti, Khoni, Ambrolauri, Batumi, Telavi, Akhalkalaki, Marneuli, Senaki, Samtredia, Bagdati, Chkhorotsku, Abasha, and Martvili.

At the conclusion of the oath-taking and ceremonial event on Freedom Square, aircraft from the Air Defense and Aviation Command will fly over.

Throughout the day, events will also be held on Orbeliani Square.
