The geography of flights from Russia to Abkhazia is expanding, work is currently underway on new directions, in which air carriers of the Russian Federation are showing interest, - the so-called president of occupied Abkhazia, Badra Gunba, stated in an interview with Russian media.

"Air traffic between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Abkhazia is a priority direction for us. The geography of flights is expanding. Several airlines are showing active interest. Today, planes are already flying to us from Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod and other cities of Russia. I am sure that the geography will expand by the end of the year," - Gunba noted.

According to him, Sokhumi Airport was and remains the airport with one of the longest runways.

“The airport is open almost all year round, no weather conditions prevent us from implementing this project, and therefore I think that many airlines will be interested in implementing this project,” Gunba noted.

It should be noted that regular flights from Russia to the restored Sokhumi airport, which were suspended 32 years ago, were resumed on May 1 of this year. The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Russia’s actions and described them as a gross violation of Georgian legislation and international law on occupied territories.
