Giorgi Bachiashvili to make statement regarding his detention at court hearing tomorrow

Former head of the Co-Investment Fund, Giorgi Bachiashvili, will make a statement regarding his detention at the court hearing tomorrow, - his lawyer Levan Makharashvili told journalists about the above after leaving Rustavi Penitentiary No. 12.

The lawyer did not make extensive comments, since, according to him, Bachiashvili himself wants to make a statement about the incident.

He will make a statement tomorrow, at 12:00, at the Tbilisi City Court, at his own trial in the Mtkvari HPP case.

"Giorgi and I talked in detail, however, his wish is that tomorrow, when his trial (Mtkvari HPP) takes place, he himself will make a public statement regarding the events that occurred, therefore, unfortunately, I cannot talk to you about the details," Bachiashvili said.

For information, the State Security Service has detained Giorgi Bachiashvili.

"On May 26, 2025, an anonymous notification was received by the State Security Service, which revealed that Giorgi Bachiashvili, a dual citizen of Georgia and the Russian Federation, wanted and convicted under a red circular, was moving near the so-called green border section between Tsetili Khidi and Sadakhlo.

As a result of the investigative and operational-search measures taken, the above-mentioned person was detained.

The Anti-Corruption Agency of the State Security Service is conducting the investigation under Part 1 of Article 344 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which refers to illegal border crossing and provides for imprisonment for a term of three to five years.

The State Security Service expresses its gratitude to the employees of the relevant units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the assistance provided," the State Security Service statement reads.
