One of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, defendant Zurab Girchi Japaridze, was visited by lawyer Boris Chele Kurua at Rustavi Penitentiary No. 12.
According to Kurua, Japaridze feels well.
"He feels good, as good as a person unjustly imprisoned can feel. He had absolutely understood what kind of fight he was entering and what stage he has started by being imprisoned. The main message Zura had when he was arrested, handcuffed, was that in the end we will win and he still holds this opinion.
Based on what we talked about, none of his rights were violated during his transfer and after his placement in the penitentiary, he is being treated like an ordinary prisoner. He does not have a TV yet, this is also a standard procedure, after they open a card for him, he will be able to have a TV," Kurua said.
For information, Zurab Girchi Japaridze was summoned to the temporary investigative commission of the Georgian Parliament for explanations, where he did not appear.
After this, he was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, which refers to "failure to comply with the request of the Temporary Investigative Commission of the Parliament of Georgia, punishable by a fine or imprisonment for a term of up to one year, deprivation of the right to hold a position or engage in activity for a term of up to three years.
The court imposed a 20,000-GEL bail on Japaridze as a preventive measure, which he did not pay. This became the basis for replacing the bail imposed on him with detention.
Zurab Girchi Japaridze was arrested on May 22 in the courtroom.
