Parliament passes bill, in first reading, which brings Intelligence Service under jurisdiction of State Security Service

The Parliament has adopted a draft law in the first reading, as a result of which the Intelligence Service, currently directly subordinate to the Prime Minister, will be transferred to the sphere of governance of the State Security Service.

With the amendments adopted by the Parliament, the Intelligence Service will be transformed into a sub-agency of the State Security Service - the National Intelligence Agency.

The Head of the National Intelligence Agency and his deputy will be appointed and dismissed by the Head of the State Security Service.

The National Intelligence Agency will be accountable to the Head of the Security Service and will be supervised by the Head of the State Security Service.

The package of legislative amendments was unanimously supported in the first reading, with 87 votes.
